Integrating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into Places of Impact: A Case Study

Integrating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into Places of Impact: A Case Study

In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of addressing social and governance aspects alongside environmental concerns in the realm of sustainability. Places of Impact, an organization dedicated to providing women-centric, affordable housing solutions for migrant workers in India, exemplifies this holistic approach to sustainability.

India faces significant challenges in providing suitable living conditions for over 140 million migrant workers, particularly migrant women. Places of Impact recognized this need for change and set out to create sustainable solutions that improve the lives of migrant women and reduce inequality.

Corpstage had the privilege of partnering with Places of Impact to help integrate the principles of the SDGs into their operations and maximize their social impact. The partnership involved a comprehensive assessment of Places of Impact’s initiatives and their alignment with the 17 SDGs. Corpstage conducted on-site visits, stakeholder interviews, and data analysis to gain a deep understanding of Places of Impact’s operations and context.

The assessment revealed a gap in sustainability efforts, with a predominant focus on environmental aspects rather than the social and governance aspects of ESG. Corpstage recognized the need for a comprehensive approach that addressed the holistic well-being of migrant women and tackled inequality.

Together, Corpstage and Places of Impact worked to align their mission and initiatives with relevant SDGs. The focus on women-centric housing solutions directly contributed to SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being). Strategic planning sessions helped Places of Impact develop a clear roadmap for achieving their goals, and partnerships with developers, NGOs, and government agencies leveraged resources and expertise to implement projects.

The results have been outstanding. Places of Impact’s first two projects, in collaboration with developers Purthi and Moonshot Environment LLP, have positively impacted over 3000 lives and improved financial outcomes for women migrant workers (SDG 8). This achievement earned them recognition as a top 10 global finalist at the EU Tech Chamber 2021 SDG Awards.

As Corpstage’s client, Places of Impact holds a special place in our journey towards promoting sustainability and integrating the SDGs into business operations. The collaboration demonstrates how organizations can make a tangible impact by addressing the social and governance aspects of ESG. Places of Impact’s work in empowering migrant women through sustainable housing sets an inspiring example for others to follow.
